The university’s policy in terms of promoting the economic benefits of research can be defined in the following way:
- UCL would like to capitalise on its research findings by organising technology transfers.
- In order to make this happen, it hopes, where possible, to remain the owner of the results of its research.
- Moreover, protecting intellectual property through patents is actively encouraged by UCL through:
- Recognising patents as publications
- Effective support and short deadlines so as not to delay the publication of scientific publications.
Several
promotional methods for research results can be envisaged: the sale of research, awarding licences or creating a spin-off. UCL has already been behind many
spin-offs.
The university has asked ADRE and Sopartec to implement the various promotional mechanisms and be responsible for their practical organisation.
