- discourse studies (discourse structure, coherence, cohesion)
- contrastive (corpus) linguistics (Dutch/French)
- the semantics of discourse markers
- grammaticalization and intersubjectification (of discourse markers)
- speech vs. writing
- L1 vs L2 discourse structure
