RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Research activities in this area are focused on the mode of action of two homeodomain transcription factors of the Hox family in mouse: Hoxa1 and Hoxa2.

While the developmental roles of both Hoxa1 and Hoxa2 have been well documented in the last decade, the regulatory networks they take part in remain poorly characterized.  In order to investigate on the mode of action of Hoxa1 and Hoxa2, in vitro and in vivo models have been set up to:

  • identify and characterize target enhancers and target genes
  • delineate critical or regulatory functional domains in these proteins
  • identify and characterize their interactors

The methodologies and models concurrently developed to this aim include protein-DNA and protein-protein interaction assays, cellular models, mouse transgenesis and knock-in/knock out strategies.

Ultimately, unravelling how do Hoxa1 and Hoxa2 act at the molecular level will shed light on the networks and pathways they are involved in to play their roles in embryonic development and oncogenesis.
