29/05/2012 Conférence de Trisha Greenhalgh, "studying large-scale change in healthcare", le 29 mai 2012 à l' UCLouvain-Woluwe

T. Greenhalgh is professor at Centre for Primary Care and Public Health Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry

T. Greenhalgh is well known for her work on developing innovative interdisciplinary approaches, drawing on narrative, ethnographic and participatory methods, to explore complex, policy-related issues in contemporary healthcare.

The conference “studying large-scale change in healthcare” will be held on the 29th of May at 13.00 at "Pavillon des conférences", Clos Chapelle-aux-Champs, 19 - 1200, Bruxelles (site of UCL at Woluwé)

In the frame of that visit, we will organize the same day (29th of May) a morning seminar (from 9am to 12md) centred on methodological questions and reflections related to IRSS and doctoral school people's research projects.

The idea would be to use articles and literature written by Trisha Greenhalgh to identify key issues related to some of our research projects.
Specifically, the domain of reflection would be around the concepts of complexity (ubiquitous in the key articles of T. Greenalgh), evaluation (i.e. realist evaluation, theory-driven evaluation) and related methodological issues (use of cases studies, n of 1 sampling, mixed methods, including validity and/or credibility of such issues…). We have initiated a “i-campus” repertory (see http://icampus.uclouvain.be/claroline/document/document.php?cidReset=true&cidReq=IRSS000 ).

Concretely we propose to all people wishing to participate to the morning seminar to do the following:
1) Participate to a first preparation meeting on the 7th of May:
a. Each participant will prepare before the meeting an issue/question that is related to his/her research project, inspired by an article from Trisha Greenhalgh.
b. During the meeting each will quickly present his/her issue/question
2) Participate to a second preparation meeting on the 16th of May:
a. Olivier Schmitz will propose a short concept note to clarify the complexity concept as it is presented by TG work, and to eventually launch reflection on it
b. Issues/questions to be discussed during the 29th of May seminar will be defined

3) If you are interested to participate to that seminar but are not able to attend the 7th of May preparatory meeting, you should (before the 7th of May) send a short note to explain the question/issue of interest for you by insisting on the link between your research project and article written by TG.

Please send your short note to Olivier.Schmitz@uclouvain.be
May you inform also Olivier if you intend to participate to the 2 above preparatory meetings?
