Hoover Fellowships 2011-2012

Next academic year, three types of post-doctoral stays are possible at the Hoover Chair. In all three cases,
* Candidates must be scholars from outside Belgium, who hold a doctorate or possess equivalent qualifications and are active in the field of economic or social ethics. At least some rudiments of French and an active knowledge of either English or French are required.
* Scholars with an active interest inthe main research themes of the Hoover Chair's permanent members are particularly welcome. These themes include theories of social justice, ritical political economy, theories of democracy, the future of the welfare state, the tension between cultural diversity and economic solidarity, the potential and limits of corporate social responsibilty, intergenerational justice, linguistic justice, workplace democracy, transparency in collective decision making, the stigmatization of social categories in historical perspective, etc.
* Successful candidates will be full members of the Hoover Chair for the duration of their stay. They will be provided with office space, internet connection, free access to various other services, some secretarial assistance, and some help in finding accommodation. They will be welcome to take an active part in the Chaire Hoover's activities and will have access to the University's seminars, lecture courses and libraries.

The three formulas differ in terms of their duration, pecuniary conditions, requirements and deadline for appplication:

1. Long-term grants (one or two years)
co-funded by the Marie Curie Actions of the European Commission
Benefit: net monthly allowance of EUR 2050, social security coverage and insurance expenses.
Application: Fill in the relevant part of the downloadable application form and return it by e-mail no later than 28 January 2011 to therese.davio@uclouvain.be. You will be informed in February whether the Hoover Chair is in a position to forward your application to the research council of the University
Restriction: These grants are restricted to people who have a research experience of less than 10 years, obtained they doctorate less than 6 years ago, worked in Belgium less than 24 months in the last three years, and have a strong research record. 2. Short term grants (one or two months)
funded by the Hoover Foundation
Benefit: all-inclusive gross monthly stipend of EUR 1200 and some contribution to travelling expenses.
Application: by 28 February 2011 by e-mail to therese.davio@uclouvain.be.
Must include
1. A letter (in French or English) stating briefly
- your current research interests, and in particular what you intend working on during your stay;
- your linguistic abilities;
- your preferences as to the length and timing of your stay.
2. a detailed Curriculum Vitae;
3. two reference letters (sent directly by their authors to the same address).

3. Honorary Hoover fellowships (from one to twelve months)
Scholars who fulfill the conditions stated above who have funding from another source and would like to spend at least one month as members of the Hoover Chair must use the same appplication procedure as for the short term grants (see above), while stipulating clearly that they have their own funding.
