RESEARCH OVERVIEW A major project of this team concerns membrane proteins involved in ion and metabolite transport in the plant plasma membrane. Proton pump-ATPases (H+-ATPases) form a proton electrochemical gradient across the membrane which activates many secondary transporters and is involved in many physiological functions. Our long-term aim is to understand how these enzymes are regulated. We also study pleiotropic drug resistance (PDR) transporters belonging to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter family. More particularly, we focus on those PDR that transport secondary metabolites involved in biotic (pathogens) and abiotic (iron deficiency) stress response. Finally, we use the molecular biology tools developed in the group in the more applied project of improving the heterologous expression of pharmacological proteins in plant cells Together with other teams from this research unit, we run facilities for genomics and proteomics
