Veerle Vanacker

The interest of Veerle Vanacker in geomorphology extends from quantifying the human impact on erosion patterns and erosion rates at the catchment scale, towards understanding the topographic, tectonic, and climatic factors driving long-term landscape evolution.

These are some of the broader topics that her team is currently working on :

  • Quantification of the human impact on erosion patterns and erosion rates by combining land use/-cover data, modern sediment fluxes and cosmogenic nuclide-derived "natural" long-term denudation rates.
  • Geomorphic process rates, hillslope and river channel evolution and erosion for different tectonic, lithological and vegetation conditions.
  • Cosmogenic nuclides applied to geomorphology and superficial processes.
