DOCTOR HONORIS CAUSA

Pascal Van Hententyck (Brown University), will be confered the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Université catholique de Louvain on October 8th 2008.
   

Through this distinction, the university wishes to pay tribute to his fundamental contributions in constraint programming, his remarkable scientific and technological impact in the optimization field, as well as the industrial impact of his research.

On this occasion, the title will also be bestowed upon Pr. Albert FERT (Paris-Sud, Nobel Prize Physics 2007), in recognition of the discovery of giant magnetoresistance and his major fundamental contributions to the new research field of spintronics, Pr. Ronald L. RIVEST (MIT, USA, Turing Award 2002)
in recognition of his fundamental contributions to the theory and application of cryptography (RSA), computer and network security, electronic voting, and
algorithms and Pr. John N. TSITSIKLIS (MIT, USA) in recognition of his fundamental contributions to the theory and application of optimization in distributed and stochastic systems.
