UCL in Brussels: a European District

Inaugurated in 1976, UCL's Brussels site includes the Faculty of Medicine and the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc (1 000 beds). It is home to 3 547 students and 1 029 teachers and researchers. Approximately one fifth of UCL's staff is based there.

Endowed with an astonishing architecture, UCL/Brussels houses a sculpture garden, a medicinal plant garden, an old farm and a mill. Highly urban yet village-like, the site is widely appreciated by residents and visitors.

The strong presence of medical sciences attracts numerous schools and colleges. Institutes of higher education (ECAM, Parnasse-Deux Alice, EPHEC, etc.), a primary school, a sports complex, leading companies (FMC BioPolymer, National Cancer Institute, European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer, Boehringer Ingelheim, etc.) have transformed the campus into a lively, densely populated space, frequented by 26 000 students, patients, employees and visitors every day. At 7 km away from Brussels National Airport, and a quarter of an hour away from the Grand Place by metro, UCL/Brussels is truly located at the heart of Europe.
