10 Years Institute of Life Sciences
The Institute for Life Sciences (ISV) celebrates its tenth birthday on 12 June and inaugurates its new premises.
On Friday 12 June, the Institute for Life Sciences (ISV) celebrates its tenth birthday. Located mainly in the Carnoy buildings in Louvain-la-Neuve (which is where the new premises will be inaugurated), the institute groups together over 150 persons from two faculties: sciences and agronomy. "The Institute for Life Sciences was born because several researchers wanted to unite themselves around a shared research interest," explains Marc Boutry, president of the ISV. "What we had in common was our experimental approach of biochemistry, molecular and cell biology. The atmosphere at the ISV today is open, people spontaneously share their discoveries, which is very beneficial for our research," testifies Marc Boutry. Some examples of this successful collaboration: the identification the genome of a yoghurt bacterium (streptococcus thermophilus) by two teams at the ISV and the foundation of the Delhaize Chair in biochemistry and cell biology. The birthday celebration of the Institute for Life Sciences will take place this Friday at 16:00 at the Auditoire Sud 09. Marc Boutry and UCL Rector Bernard Coulie will both hold a speech, after which the event will proceed with the inauguration of the new premises and a reception.
