Research

The main GéDAP goal is to develop field of research on population characteristics and behaviours, as well as on population dynamics (spatial and time dimensions), in a both fundamental and pragmatic framework

This research is mainly articulated in a pragmatic concern of assistance to public management and more generally in a contribution to the harmonious development of our contemporary societies.

In this purpose, we particularly try take care to make the decision makers aware, whatever they are, of current demographic realities to allow a better integration of those in their actions. It is mainly about to help the persons in charge of public management in the decision-making process in the field of demographic management, on all the levels of action from the municipality to the international authorities.

The optimal demographic management of a population must be based on an unceasingly up to date knowledge of the characteristics and demographic behaviours of the population concerned, at all levels: municipal, regional or national. This management will be interested more particularly in the differences or inequalities within this population and which would be the sign of a lack of equity. This step requires a deepening of the statistical as well as of the demographic methods and traditional instruments of analysis.

The descriptive and explanatory analysis of these differences falls within time and space and combines, in an interdisciplinary way, demography, geography, history of mentalities or economic history, sociology, even human beings genetics.
