953 - Discrete mathematics

 

 The Université catholique de Louvain is looking for a full-time specialist in

Discrete Mathematics 

All candidates with a research activity in discrete mathematics will be considered. The list of specific areas of interest includes: combinatorial optimization, algorithmic complexity, graph and network theory, information and coding theory. The successful candidate will have teaching assignments in mathematics and applied mathematics within the degree programmes organized by the Faculty, and in particular in the engineering degree in applied mathematics.
The successful candidate will be affiliated with the « Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Quantitative Modelling and Analysis » and/or with the « Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Electronics and Applied Mathematics».

General Conditions

Task : The applicant will

  • be responsible for teaching courses at all the study levels (i.e. undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate), as well as in programmes of continuing education;
  • supervise the final diploma work (i.e. master thesis) of graduate students,  as well as PhD theses;
  • be involved in (and/or supervise, promote) research programmes;
  • contribute to the international visibility of the University through teaching and research excellence;
  • participate in research projects in the field of development cooperation (if such opportunities exist). 

Qualifications : The applicant must have

  • a PhD degree in science or engineering, or equivalent qualifications,
  • a significant scientific record evidenced by international publications and/or patents,
  • either studied abroad for an extensive period or had substantial experience outside UCL,
  • experience in and aptitude for teaching at university level,
  • mind receptive to innovation in teaching and a multidisciplinary orientation,
  • excellent communication and leadership skills,
  • the ability to undertake high-level academic research and to develop and guide an internationally recognized research team,
  • a good knowledge of both spoken and written French. If this is not the case, the applicant should be ready to learn French within a year. Fluency in English and other languages for teaching and research purposes is an additional advantage.
