The Christian liturgy of 2 February remembers Mary and Joseph, who had come to present their newborn baby at the Temple of Jerusalem, accepting that the baby’s destiny would stretch far beyond the privacy of their family. The Candlemass is a religious festival of light.

The university chose Mary, Mother of Wisdom, as its emblem and 2 February as a holiday.

For each 2 February celebration, a theme is chosen along with values to promote, through paying homage to the new doctors honoris causa.
