CEMS Doctoral Course Program
As the Belgian member of the CEMS network, the Louvain School of Management (Louvain-la-Neuve campus) is actively participating in the doctoral program of the CEMS partnership. The Finance Group intends to organize an annual PhD course in finance by inviting an internationally renowned scholar in finance once a year. This year, the 4-days intensive course will be taught by Professor Jay Ritter (University of Florida) from November 22-25, 2010 in Louvain-la-Neuve. Prof. Jay R. Ritter is the Joseph Cordell Eminent Scholar in the Department of Finance at the University of Florida, a position that he has held since 1996. He holds a Ph.D. in economics and finance from the University of Chicago (1981), and has previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, the University of Michigan, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management. Prof. Ritter is best known for his articles concerning equity issuance, including "The Long-Run Performance of Initial Public Offerings," which won the Smith Breeden Award for the best article in the Journal of Finance during 1991. He has served as a Director of the American Finance Association. Prof. Ritter is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Management, European Financial Management, Journal of Behavioral Finance, and the Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, and has been an associate editor of the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies, and other journals. In 1992 and 2000, he won MBA Elective Teacher of the Year Awards. He has also consulted on valuation and market manipulation cases, and is frequently quoted in the financial press. This "Intensive Blocked Ph.D. Course" is part of LSM Ph.D. program, but it is also opened to any international Ph.D. student from other institutions.
