Research

 

Members of the Finance Group perform their research activities mainly as part of the LSM Center of Excellence CESAM, Center for Studies in Asset Management. It is an inter-university platform that brings together faculty members and affiliates in finance and accounting of the Louvain School of Management (LSM). In total, it is composed of 18 academic members, 23 researchers and PhD students and 9 associate members from the four campuses of the Louvain School of Management (Brussels, Louvain-la-Neuve, Mons and Namur).

The Center aims at enhancing the national and international visibility of the research activities of its members as well as of the School in general. The general theme of the research center is the theory and practice of “Asset Management”. It covers research topics on asset management pertaining to asset pricing, volatility and investment, audit and controlling, risk management, corporate finance, international finance and mathematical finance.

The main research interests of the Finance Group (Louvain-la-Neuve Campus) include various issues of mergers & acquisition, market regulation, private equity, entrepreneurial finance, management accounting and auditing. The Group has significantly increased its international exposure over the last years. Members have active collaborations with other researchers at Univ. Amsterdam, UCLA, Univ. of Lille 2, HEC Paris, Univ. Alicante, Univ. Singapore, Schulich School of Business, Bentley University, University of Manchester and many others.

Research work of faculty members has been presented at numerous national and international conferences and published in a number of international journals such as Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Management, Journal of Financial Markets, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Economic Journal, Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, Revue Finance, Banque et Marché, Small Business Economics, International Journal of Auditing, British Accounting Review and Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal. It is further active in (co-)organizing research seminars (most of them jointly with the CORE, UCL) and academic conferences on specialized topics in finance. Several other research activities are jointly organized with the Finance Group at KULeuven, including semi-annual workshops in finance.
