- Profile : The successful candidate will develop research, both fundamental and applied, within the Institute in the field of statistics and its applications to medical sciences. This research implies collaborations with the statisticians of the Institute as well as with the researchers in medical sciences (pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry, epidemiology and clinical trials). She or he will teach theoretical or applied courses, introductory or advanced, in statistics but mainly in biostatistics. She of he will take part in the research activities organised by the Institute (doctoral thesis, seminars, workshops, etc.) as well as in the service activities (consulting, continued education, etc.).

- Research and collaboration abilities and experience in the biomedical field.
- Medical or biological background will improve the chances of the candidate.
- Teaching ability and capacity of being integrated into a group.

General conditions
1. Tasks : The applicant will
- be responsible for teaching courses at the three study levels (i.e. undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate), as well as in programmes of continuing education;
- supervise the final diploma work (i.e. master thesis) of graduate students, as well as PhD theses;
- be involved in (and/or supervise, promote) research programmes.
- raise the international research and teaching profile of the university
- participate in research projects in the field of development cooperation (if this fits the post description).
2. Qualifications : the applicant will have
- a PhD degree in statistics or in related fields;
- a significant scientific record proved by international publications ;
- either studied abroad for an extensive period or had substantial experience outside UCL ;
- experience in and aptitude for teaching at university level ;
- the capacities required to undertake academic research at a high level and to advise, or lead, a research team ;
- a good knowledge of both spoken and written French. If this is not the case, the applicant should be ready to learn French within a year. Fluency in English and other languages is an additional advantage.
- the capacity to teach in French and in a second international language.
