Research

Within the labour sciences Institute (IST), researchers, specialised in various disciplines, study a range of subjects, amongst which the field of collective employment relations, both at Belgian and European level, is especially important.

Other questions relating to employment (working conditions, quality of service, the workplace of the future, social cohesion) receive a great deal of reflection during the multi-disciplinary seminars.

The most important research studies carried out by the IST are shown below:

• Industrial Relations within the EU - the institutional framework, the players and the bargaining process.

• The European Foundation for the improvement of living and working conditions (Dublin): participation in the research programmes in the capacity of Belgian national centre in the EIRO, ERM and the EWCO European networks.

• European literature review on " Flexibility and social protection : the ways to reconcile flexible employment patterns over the active life cycle with security for individuals ". Research carried out in 2002 by P. Vielle and P. Walthery.
