Visiting researchers

Guidelines for visiting researchers at CORE

Your main duties consist of conducting research and taking active part in the research life and activities at CORE, including in particular the seminars and lecture series in your fields of interest.  You may in addition be asked to perform some teaching within your fields of expertise, for up to 20 contact hours.

While the overall atmosphere is definitely on the relaxed side here, there are a number of guidelines that you are requested to observe as to allowable absences.

1.   For absences exceeding 1 week, prior agreement is needed, and will be granted if the grounds are research-based and sufficiently compelling.  Please apply e.g. by sending an e-mail to the Administrative Director (francisco.santanaferra@uclouvain.be). An insurance document must be introduced before each trip. Ask Catherine Germain for forms or see webpage "Life at CORE".

2.   Any absence exceeding 3 working days must be motivated by research considerations and announced by e-mail to Catherine Germain (catherine.germain@uclouvain.be).  Shorter absences are also to be reported if they are intended to occur on a regular basis.

3.   For people staying one year or longer, there is a yearly total of 4 weeks of vacation that can be taken upon a simple announcement by e-mail to Catherine (catherine.germain@uclouvain.be).  We have a preference for these 4 weeks to take place over the periods of Christmas break (December 20-January 15), Easter vacation (two weeks), and summer (July-August), so that people can be here as much as possible during session time.

CORE Discussion Papers
CORE publishes a Discussion Paper Series to which you are invited to submit papers written during your stay at CORE. Articles undergo an internal refereeing process under the responsibility of the Research Director. Papers are submitted via Francisco Santana Ferra. You are welcome to suggest the name of a referee. All researchers working at CORE (full or part-time, including long term visitors) are eligible to be referee. The refereeing process is mostly informal and hopefully consists in an open discussion between the author and the referee. Final decisions are made by the Research Director on recommendation of the referee. PDF files mut include all fonts and should not require supplemental files for the figures.
