Young Researcher with an Employment Contract

A professor who disposes of enough financial resources for his/her research, can decide to hire a researcher as a regular employee.

Internationals coming from countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) must be in possession of a valid work permit . in order to be allowed to sign an employment contract.

After signature of the employment contract, the researcher is subject to Belgian employment legislation. The contract has to be signed at latest two days before starting work. (“Dimona”).

The employment contract is signed by the employee, the employer and the supervisor.

The level of the salary is fixed according to a salary scale and the number of years of service.

An employee has to pay the social contributions due to the National Office of Social Security and is thus entitled to social security benefits.
