Marie Curie Fellowships
CALL FOR DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS AT CORE IN 2009-2010
CORE - Center for Operations Research and Econometrics, Université catholique de Louvain, announces the opening of 3 Marie-Curie Host Fellowships for Early Stage Training (EST) in Public Policy, Market Organization and Transition Economies.
What
3 fellowships for 9 months renewable research training at CORE (Maximum 1 fellowship available for non EU or non Associate Member State nationals), shorter fellowships of 3 or 6 months are also possible.
Project description
The project is lead by a consortium which includes:

The aim of the training project is to prepare students for careers in teaching, research or government services and to prepare researchers to the analysis of the fundamental economic questions facing market regulation and transition economies. The program is designed to ensure that students acquire rigorous state of the art knowledge of core areas of economic theory and research methodology and to offer them research opportunities under close supervision.
The project will provide state-of-the-art training in the fields of public policy, industrial organization and transition economies.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
1. Eligible Research Training Activities

Duration: 9 months renewable (shorter 3 or 6 months fellowships also possible).
Only full time research activities at CORE are eligible.
The researchers benefiting from the research training activities for more than 1 year shall be hosted by more than 1 partner for a period of at least 3 months.

The applicant must also register as a PhD student at the host institution: Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), Charles University Prague (CERGE), Central European University (CEU) or Budapest or Economics Institute, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (EI). Short term fellowships (<6 months) do no need to register to doctoral programme in the host institution and will be treated as visiting researcher.

Eligible research training activities must consist of activities in Public Policy, Market Organization and/or Transition Economies.
2. Eligible Applicants

Nationality
National of an EU member State, Associated State or third country (max. 30%).
A researcher from a third country having legally resided or/and having had his/her main activity in the Community or in Associated State(s) for at least 4 years (in total) out of the last five years immediately prior to his/her appointment is treated as a national of the Member State or Associated State in which (s)he has resided for the longest period.

Mobility
The applicant at CORE may not be Belgian. In the case of an applicant holding more than one nationality, (s)he will be able to be hosted by CORE if (s)he is Belgian and has not resided in Belgium during the previous 5 years.
The applicant may not have resided or carried out his/her main activity in Belgium for more than 12 months in the last 3 years.
As an exception to the general rule, an applicant holding the nationality from a Member State or Associated Candidate State can carry out his/her research training activities in his/her country of nationality if (s)he can provide evidence testifying that (s)he has legally resided and had his/her main activity in a third country for at least four of the last five years immediately prior to his/her appointment.

Qualifications/Research experience
The target group comprises European students with a solid background in economics and mathematics. Pre-requisite is at least an MA or MSc in economics from top European University or equivalent. Non-European students cannot exceed the 30 percent threshold. Selection criteria used for selection includes (i) aptitude and adequacy as demonstrated by past academic records; (ii) experience in the field of research as demonstrated by research proposal and/or MA thesis; (iii) potential of excellence as demonstrated by letters of recommendation; (iv) potential impact and benefit to the applicant as demonstrated by statement letter; (v) preliminary agreement with the host supervisor.
The applicant must be in the first 4 years of his/her research activities since gaining a university degree giving him/her access to doctoral studies.
The applicant may not have a doctoral degree.
Proficiency in English is required: IELTS, TOEFL, degree from an English speaking institution,... are acceptable proofs.
