Language examination: mastering of the French language (Pedagogical Master’s degree)

General conditions

Those students have access to studies aimed at obtaining the academic grade that sanctions 2nd-cycle studies of a diploma, the 1st cycle of which is not divided into two parts:

  • The academic grade of the 1st cycle of the same diploma
  • The same 2nd-cycle academic grade, but with a different orientation
  • An academic grade of universities, as a result of a decision by the academic authorities and under the complementary conditions that they set
  • A long-type academic grade that gives access to it, as a result of a decision by the Government and under the complementary conditions that it sets
  • An academic grade similar to the ones mentioned above issued by the Flemish Community, the German Community or by the Royal Military Academy, under the same conditions
  • A foreign academic grade recognized as being equivalent to those mentioned above

Those students are exempted from the above-mentioned conditions and have access as well to 2nd-cycle studies, who, to be granted the academic grade of the 1st cycle of the same diploma, still have to pass at most 12 credits and who are enrolled simultaneously for these studies. However, the students who are admitted on the basis of this special stipulation can only be taken account of by a jury during a deliberation for 2nd- cycle studies if they have met the admission requirements entirely and have obtained the 1st-cycle academic grade that is needed.

Special conditions

  • Access to the 2nd cycle of the Master’s in Medicine or the 2nd cycle of the Master’s in Dentistry:
Only those students have access to the studies aimed at obtaining a degree in the 2nd cycle of a course, the 1st cycle of which is divided into two parts, who have the academic grade of the 1st cycle of the same course, obtained within the French Community.
For the application of this paragraph:
    • those students who have obtained an academic grade within the French Community, sanctioning the 1st-cycle studies in Medicine, those students who have obtained a complete equivalence of their foreign degree with the 1st cycle degree in Medicine or a partial equivalence of their foreign degree with the 2nd-cycle degree in Medicine and who have obtained a certificate that they can access the 2nd cycle in Medicine issued by the competent jury for the 1st year of the 2nd cycle of the same course, as a result of the procedure fixed by article 79, par. 1 of the decree of March 31st 2004.
    • those students who have obtained an academic grade within the French Community, sanctioning the 1st-cycle studies in Dentistry, those students who have obtained a complete equivalence of their foreign degree with the 1st cycle degree in Dentistry or a partial equivalence of their foreign degree with the 2nd-cycle degree in Dentistry and who have obtained a certificate that they can access the 2nd cycle in Dentistry issued by the competent jury for the 1st year of the 2nd cycle of the same course, as a result of the procedure fixed by article 79, par. 1 of the decree of March 31st 2004.

  • Access to the 2nd cycle on the basis of a “short-cut”:
    • Access to the 2nd cycle of university for those students who have a short-type non-university higher education degree
    • Access to the 2nd cycle of university for those students who have a long-type non-university higher education degree

  • Access to the 2nd cycle on the basis of the valuing of the knowledge and competence acquired by personal and professional experience:

With the aim of acceding 2nd-cycle studies, the jury of these studies can value the knowledge and competence acquired by their personal and professional experience.

This useful experience must correspond to at least 5 years of activities, without taking into account the years of higher-education study that were not passed successfully. At the end of an evaluation procedure organized by the academic authorities, the jury will decide whether the skills and knowledge of the student are sufficient to be able to follow these studies successfully (*).

  • For those students who have an academic grade from a Belgian university or a foreign title or grade (which does not give access to studies in this particular year on the basis of the general conditions mentioned above), access to the 2nd basic cycle on the basis of a valuation of 180 ECTS credits by the admissions jury (personalized admission on the basis of a file). (*)

(*) At the end of the admissions procedure organized by the competent jury and subject to the conditions fixed by the academic authorities, the student may follow complementary studies that make up a maximum of 60 supplementary credits. In case the supplementary workload of this student exceeds 15 credits, this training is considered to be a preparatory year. It does not lead to a degree and is considered to be the last year of a 1st cycle that gives access to the studies aimed at.

Language examination: mastering of the French language
