At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

At the end of this seminar, students will have acquired a knowledge of the history of excavations, the techniques of archaeology in Egypt and its problems, with their specificities, as well as the main elements of the material culture of ancient Egypt (pottery, statuary, architecture, etc.).
 
Content
After a presentation of the history of excavations in Egypt from the Bonaparte Expedition to the present day and of the evolution of techniques and problems of Egyptian archaeology, the seminar reviews the main elements of the material culture of ancient Egypt. Case studies deepen this presentation.
Teaching methods
The history of excavation and the techniques of archaeology in Egypt are lectured. Active and critical participation of the students allows them to confront their knowledge of the archaeology of other cultures with that of ancient Egypt. Major elements of material culture are presented in lecture form or by students. Required readings complete the course.
Evaluation methods
Continuous assessment and final oral examination based on written preparation. The continuous assessment and the final exam each count for half of the final grade (50% + 50%). Continuous assessment may take the form of reading sheets or oral presentations by students, but will be precisely defined during the first session.
