To acquire at least a basic level allowing to follow the course.
Main themes
Topics of general interest, linked to concrete situations of daily life in a foreign country.
Trough various activities, the course aims at making the student aware of general cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

The course focuses on communicative competence: the objective is to develop efficiency in communication, oral skills (mainly), discourse coherence. This course aims at giving students the necessary tools to deal with various situations they will be confronted with upon arrival in their host country.
     
    1 At the end of the course, the student should
    • be able to communicate efficiently in concrete situations of daily life: find one's way, enroll for a course at university, make an appointment'
    • also master the main grammatical structures of the Spanish language and be able to consolidate them.
     
    2 Speaking skills
    The student should be able :
    • to make a short presentation on a topic of personal interest and
    • to explain and justify his personal viewpoints.
     
    Content
    • The course is structured around themes, each of which includes receptive and productive activities aimed at consolidating and broadening vocabulary and grammar.
    • Approach of linguistic and cultural aspects through songs.
    Teaching methods
    As the focus is communicative, the vocabulary and structure are trained by means of oral and written production exercises (role plays, debates, situation descriptions, letters, e-mails, etc.).
    Evaluation methods
    December
    • Continuous assessment (conjugation tests, presentation, homework): 50% of the final score.
    • Written exam (last week of class), grammar/vocabulary: 30% of the final score.
    • Final oral exam (S13), one part prepared (oral exposition of a subject of the student's choice) and an unprepared part (answering a question - from a list of 20 -, taken at random) : 20% of the final score.
    September
    • Written exam, grammar/vocabulary: 60% of the final score.
    • Oral exam, part prepared and part unprepared: 40% of the final score.
    •   Important: in September, the 2 exam parts must be presented.
    Depending on the health situation, the examinations could be done remotely.
    Other information
    This course must / can be integrated in the student's programme.
    In certains cases, the decision to integrate the course is left to the faculty.
