Main themes
Seminar on changing topics selected from current issues relating to families, couples and sexuality. The selected topics are studied through recent scientific publications from different areas in human sciences.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 To make students better aware of aspects of family, marital and sexual life and their complexities.

Content
The seminar covers a range of basic concepts in family and sexual sciences. These concepts are drawn from various disciplines in the human and social sciences (psychology, history, law, sociology, anthropology...), completed by elements from the life sciences (biology, medicine). The seminar is also an introduction to scientific methods. Participants are encouraged to identify relevant scientific publications, produce literature summaries and communicate, orally and in writing, the results of their bibliographical research.
Teaching methods
Like all seminars, the sessions are interactive. The active participation of the students is recommended. Student attendance is mandatory (failure to comply with this requirement may result in refusal to register for the examination, articles 71, 72 and 73 of the RGEE).
This seminar is worth 10 ECTS. It requires an investment in individual and group work of approximately 250 to 300 hours throughout the semester. The amount of time spent working outside of the sessions therefore greatly exceeds the time spent during classroom sessions.
The exact schedule of the sessions wil be announced during the first lesson and displayed on Moodle in the begining of the semester.
Depending on the public health recommendations and the classroom capacity, sessions could be held on line.
Evaluation methods
Continuous assessment based on written reports and oral presentations on the literature covered.
The final paper is an original production composed by the student. This composition must be based on properly referenced scientific publications. Generative Artificial Intelligence tools (e.g. ChatGPT) are not scientific sources. The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools is therefore not recommended for this project. If, however, the student wishes to quote a text extract produced by an Artificial Intelligence tool to feed his/her work, the student must quote the portions of his/her compositions taken from the tool, referencing the tool used as well as the exact prompt(s).
Depending on the health policies implemented, students' oral presentations may take place online.
Other information
Lessons material: co-constructed bibliographies, slide shows, multimedia resources on Moodle.
As English is one of the most widely used languages in scientific production, it is expected that a proportion of the bibiographical resources used by students will be written in English.
Online resources
The seminar's Moodle page brings together all the scientific literature seen in class, as well as methodological, thematic and disciplinary resources in multimedia format. Some teaching activities will be carried out using Teams. Teams sub-channels will be dedicated to group work.
