GERM 1323 (2nd year students): English linguistics: phonology and morphology

GERM 1521 (3rd year students): Advanced English productive skills

GERM 1522 (3rd year students): Advanced English receptive skills

GERM 2720 (MASTER level): English for Academic Puroposes (EAP)

My research interests are:

  • Learner corpus annotation (with particular emphasis on error tagging)
  • Learner-corpus-based error analysis, e.g. comparison of error profiles from learners with different L1s and at different proficiency levels
  • Corpus-based error counting methods
  • Methods for language proficiency assessment
  • Links between error-tagged learner corpora and the Common European Framework for Reference descriptors: further specification of the linguistic competence descriptors in terms of 'cannot do's"

 

Language testing research stay (University of Lancaster, England, 25 July-13 August 2005):

Introduction to language testing methods, theoretical background and concepts, statistical methods, language testing item development.

 

Content development for pedagogical CD-ROM:

Development of the English phonetics section on the CD-ROM Parole & Langue: Parcours et exerices de Linguistique (UCL Presses unversitaires de Louvain). The CD-ROM was developed for use within the context of the second-year English linguistics course.

 

I gave several teacher training sessions in Belgium for high school teachers:
