Content

The LDVLP2650 Seminar on Transformative Economies introduces students to critical socio-economic inquiry and contemporary socio-economic thought in its diversity. In the face of multiple crises — ecological, social, and democratic — the seminar presents alternative forms of economy that are often invisible to conventional economic indicators and absent from public debate. The seminar will study (some of) these economies in depth, particularly by critically examining their potential for social and ecological transformation.

Teaching methods

To achieve these objectives, the seminar uses an active learning approach centered on critically reading supplementary academic articles posted on the Moodle UCLouvain platform. These articles must be read before each session. This approach combines in-depth reading of the articles, writing reading notes to be submitted at each session, participating in moderated sessions, attending a conference, and submitting a final assignment in both oral and written formats at the end of the term.

Evaluation methods

As it is an advanced seminar, the workload for this seminar is substantial. Assessment is based on a mark that takes into account class and lecture participation, reading reports, chairing a session, and an oral presentation at the end of the seminar, as well as the submission of a written assignment. This final assignment must be an original and personal contribution to the seminar's subject matter, focusing on a specific topic given to each student.
In the second exam session, the teacher will decide on an appropriate examination procedure.
