The course is open to students having followed the minor in musicology or having basic music knowledge.
Main themes
Analysis of various musical composition systems, from the dark ages up to now.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Deepening of students' competences in musical analysis, both in the fields of tonal music and other writing types.
 
Content
This course examines the development of Western musical language between the 16th and 19th centuries. Based on Nicolas Meeùs’s theory of vectors, it involves analyzing and actively listening to scores in various styles.  
Teaching methods
Lectures and analytical exercises (active listening and analysis of musical scores). 
Evaluation methods
Students' learning outcomes are assessed based on coursework and a written examination, which covers both the theoretical component (lectures) and the analysis of musical scores.

This course requires a good command of the treble and bass clefs, as well as a basic knowledge of music theory (major and minor scales, intervals, triads and tetrads, cadences).
