Seminar on changing topics selected from current issues relating to families, couples and sexuality. The selected topics are studied through recent scientific publications from different areas in human sciences.

Content
The seminar will provide an overview of fundamental concepts in the domain of family and sexual studies. These concepts are drawn from various disciplines in the human and social sciences (i.e. anthropology, demography, economy, history, law, philosophy, psychology, sociology), with elements from the life sciences (medical biology, public health) also being included. The seminar will also serve as an introduction to scientific research methods. Participants are encouraged to identify relevant scientific publications, produce literature summaries and communicate, orally and in writing, the results of their bibliographical research.
This course contributes to the University’s goal of educating students on the challenges of sustainable development and the transition to a sustainable future. Students will identify and examine the processes through which—or the extent to which—family and marital practices impact the environment, and how the environmental crisis impacts family and marital practices.

Teaching methods
The sessions of the seminar are designed to be interactive, fostering an environment conducive to engagement and participation by all attendees. A significant portion of the lessons will be taught using the flipped classroom approach. It is recommended and encouraged that students should actively participate. The seminar sessions are interactive. The active participation of students is encouraged and recommended. The presence of students is mandatory (failure to comply with this procedure may result in opposition to the student's registration for the exam, articles 71, 72 and 73 of the RGEE).
This seminar is worth 10 ECTS of the 30 ECTS of the student's program during the first semester. It requires a personal investment of about 250 to 300 hours over the semester. The time spent on homework and library-work outside of the auditorium therefore greatly exceeds the time spent in the classroom.
The precise schedule of the sessions will be communicated during the inaugural lesson and made available on Moodle at the commencement of the semester.
The feasibility of conducting sessions online is contingent upon the prevailing public health recommendations and the capacity of the classroom.

Continuous assessment based on written reports and oral presentations on scientific literature addressing issues related to family, relationships, or sexuality.
The student’s work must be original, that is, unique and written by the student. This work must be based on scientific publications, properly cited. The use of UcLouvain’s internal library search platforms and AI tools is encouraged. The use of external generative AI is strictly prohibited.
The delivery of students' oral presentations may be subject to modification in accordance with the implementation of health policies.
