This course explores how religion engages with contemporary debates on ethics and culture. Each year, it takes up a selection of pressing controversial issues — for example, the promises and risks of artificial intelligence, the ideals and pitfalls of meritocracy, controversies surrounding the beginning and end of life, or the relationship between religion and conspiracy theories. While the course centers primarily on Christianity, it draws on a broad range of intellectual and religious traditions.

Teaching methods

The course is structured around a series of lectures delivered by the instructor, enriched by active discussions that form an integral part of each session. External speakers may also be invited occasionally.

Evaluation methods

Evaluation is based on active participation and the final written exam.

Other information

While the language of instruction for this course is French, accommodations are available for non-native speakers. Students may pose questions, engage in consultations with the instructor, and submit their assignments in English.
