The course on analyzing digital worlds aims to introduce students to the analysis of various types of digital communities.
I. What is a digital community?
2. What is digital data?

• Digital traces
• Data and metadata
• Issues related to big data and data quality

3. Data collection and structuring techniques
4. Different types of digital data processing
Introduction to four specific methods

• Review of descriptive statistics
• Lexicometric analysis
• Graph analysis
• Netnography

5. Introduction to data journalism

The groups will be coached by the course instructors and the teaching assistant as they work on the various parts of the project.

Evaluation methods

Assessment will be based on a group project analyzing digital communities (50%). Following this analysis, the groups will be required to write a press article presenting their findings to the readership of a national daily newspaper (50%). The grade for the group work will be weighted based on an assessment of your participation in the project. Failure by a student to complete the Dynamo will result in a grade of 0/20 for the assignment.
In the event of failure in the group project, it will be possible to revise and resubmit the work during the second exam session. Students who fail in June will be required to take an oral exam during the second session.

Other information

The use of generative AI in the analytical work will be discussed in class. Students must declare any actual use of AI in completing the assignment. This declaration must detail how the AI ​​tools were utilized. The use of AI in drafting the journalistic piece is prohibited.
