New book : Cours d’Analyse infinitésimale de Charles-Jean de La Vallée Poussin

Jean Mawhin and Augusto Ponce are delighted to announce the publication—supported by the Royal Academy of Belgium—of a volume devoted to Charles-Jean de La Vallée Poussin’s Cours d’Analyse infinitésimale.
The book reconstructs the third edition of Volume II, which was still in press at the time of the sack of Louvain in August 1914. This edition, never published afterwards, represented the most advanced and complete version of this landmark work in the Belgian mathematical tradition. Using the sets of proofs annotated by the author himself and preserved by his family, they have been able to recover the fullest available form of the text, including the developments on Lebesgue integration that disappeared from later editions for material reasons in the postwar period. The volume also places this reconstruction in its historical and scientific context.
