Joost de Moor is an FNRS Chercheur qualifié (Research Professor) of Political Science at UCLouvain (ISPOLE). He is a political scientist and interdisciplinary environmental social scientist working at the intersection of social movement studies and environmental politics, and urban studies. His research examines how citizens and social movements respond to the climate crisis, with particular attention to strategic dilemmas, future imaginaries, and the democratic implications of climate-related conflicts. He has published articles in international peer-reviewed journals such as Environmental Politics, Social Movement Studies, European Political Science Review, Theory & Society, Cities, and International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, and has contributed chapters to edited volumes and handbooks in political science and environmental studies.

At UCLouvain, he leads the FNRS-funded research project CLIMODEM (Democracy under Climate Change), which analyses climate-related conflicts in European cities and examines the conditions under which such conflicts strengthen or challenge democratic practices. His research combines qualitative fieldwork, comparative research designs, protest surveys, and mixed-methods approaches.

Before joining UCLouvain, he held academic positions at Sciences Po Paris, Stockholm University, Leiden University, Keele University, and the University of Antwerp. He is involved in international research collaborations and contributes to academic and public discussions on climate politics and democracy.
