Main themes
This course aims to provide students with a historical overview of the major currents of philosophy as they developed within the Chinese cultural sphere. It seeks to define what philosophy is, its origins, and the position it occupies in Chinese culture. The course introduces the most influential thinkers as well as the central issues that have shaped philosophical debates.

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |

| 2 | situate Chinese philosophers and schools of thought in their historical context; |
| 3 | situate philosophy in relation to other forms of thought operating within this cultural sphere; |
| 4 | identify the central issues addressed in Chinese philosophy and assess their significance; |
| 5 | use the tools necessary for studying Chinese thought in its philosophical dimension, both at a general and more advanced level. |
Content
The course offers an introduction to early Chinese thought, focusing in particular on the Confucian tradition, Mohism, and Daoism, based on close readings of selected key passages from the original texts. These passages will be studied with attention to their broader dialectical framework as well as their cultural and historical context.
Teaching methods
Lectures will be based on preparatory readings done outside of class.
Evaluation methods
Évaluation continue. La note finale sera composée des noteContinuous assessment. The final grade will be based on three written tests during the semester: the first counting for 20%, the second and third for 40% each.s obtenues lors des trois tests écrits au cours du semestre (le premier comptant pour 20 %, le deuxième et le troisième pour 40 % chacun).
