At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

This unit contributes to the acquisition and development of the following learning outcomes, as assigned to the Master's degree in interpreting : 1.4, 2.4, 6.4, 6.6, FS-ILS-1.

Specific learning outcomes at the end of the learning unit
At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to:
  1. describe the fundamental principles of co-interpreting in mixed deaf/hard-of-hearing teams and recognise the professional, linguistic and ethical issues involved, as well as the limits of the system ;
  2. identify the roles, responsibilities and complementarities of the different members of a mixed interpreting team
  3. take part in a supervised co-interpreting situation, applying a few simple techniques specific to co-interpreting;
  4. prepare an extract from a speech in pairs, in consultation with a deaf co-interpreter, taking into account the target audience, the context and the linguistic constraints ;
  5. identify potential obstacles or difficulties in a co-interpreting situation, and suggest ways of improving or adjusting in a constructive manner ;
  6. adopt an open, respectful and cooperative attitude during a co-interpreting assignment, taking into account the specific contributions of deaf and hearing interpreters.
