Lecture by Donatella Fiorani, Professor of Architectural Conservation at the Faculty of Architecture, Sapienza University of Rome, and internationally recognised expert in the theory and practice of heritage preservation. Her talk will examine how contemporary interventions on historic buildings reflect broader cultural, social, and aesthetic attitudes in Europe. Through a selection of emblematic projects from the 21st century, she will explore the relationship between new and existing architectural elements, the continuity of historic identity, and the evolving criteria that guide restoration. The lecture aims to question whether a shared European perspective on conservation still exists today, beyond national narratives and socio-economic influences. This event is part of the research project ARC OsTIUM, which stems from a collaboration between archaeologists and architects, and is framed within a broader reflection on archaeological heritage.
