Abstract:
After Shor’s publication of a quantum algorithm capable of efficiently solving the prime factorization problem, interest in quantum computing, and particularly in quantum optimization, has surged. According to McKinsey, the field’s future looks promising, with governments and private companies already investing billions of euros. Yet, the long-anticipated breakthrough has not yet arrived. In this seminar, we explore the challenges of applying current NISQ (Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum) devices to optimization problems and discuss the fundamental limitations that may persist even with the advent of noiseless, universal quantum computers.
