Charles Bielders has an agricultural engineering degree from UCLouvain (Belgium) and a Ph.D. from Cornell University (USA). After working for 5 years at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in Niger, he was hired for an academic tenure-track position at UCLouvain in 2000. He is presently full professor and teaches subjects such as hydrology, soil physics and soil erosion and conservation.  His research interests include water and sediment transfer at plot and small watershed scales, the application of the connectivity concept in hydrology, as well as soil health and soil conservation.  He is author or co-author of 115 publications in international peer-reviewed journals.  He has (co-)supervised 25 PhD students and currently directs 6 Ph.D. students via various national and international collaborative research projects.  He has been involved in almost 40 research projects since 2000. Almost half of these projects have been carried out in Africa involving African Ph.D. students.
