This capacity-building workshop focuses one methods for the study of large corpora, especially text (and accompanying data) scraped from online spaces such as social media channels, websites, or digital archives. The first part of the workshop will consist in a general presentation of these methods - their origins and milestones, their strengths and weaknesses, best practices, common mistakes, etc. - with a particular emphasis on comparing the recent AI models with classic Natural Language Processing tools (such as topic modeling). The second part of the workshop will be a hands-on session for colleagues looking for practical advice, tips, or help for their own research, who will be able to ask Prof. Coan directly and individually.
