Mission Statement
The Institute of Neuroscience (IoNS) federates neuroscience research at UCLouvain. It hosts a network of over 300 scientists and supporting staff, committed to advancing translational research in neuroscience. Founded in 2010, the institute is structured around three research axes that implement complementary approaches to span all organizational levels of the nervous system.
The Cellular & Molecular axis (CEMO) focuses on the fundamental bases of neural development, neurophysiology, neuropharmacology and neuropathology.
The Systems & Cognition axis (COSY) explores perception, cognition and motor functions in humans.
The Clinical Neuroscience axis (NEUR) aims to advance knowledge and enable diagnosis and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders, including advanced neurorehabilitation strategies, in collaboration with two academic hospitals, the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc and the UCLouvain CHU Namur-Godinne.
Scientific Agenda
Symposium and Workshop on Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to present the program of the Symposium and Workshop on Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (¹H-MRS), which will take place on April 27–28, 2026 at the Woluwe-Saint-Lambert campus of the Université catholique de Louvain. This two-day event, organized by the Neuroimaging Platform (NIMA) of the Institute of Neuroscience (IoNS), will bring together international experts from leading institutions, including Yale and Oxford University, King’s College London and Johns Hopkins Medicine, to discuss recent methodological advances, neurobiological insights, and clinical applications of ¹H-MRS.
This symposium aims to provide practical expertise for researchers, clinicians, and students interested in magnetic resonance spectroscopy. We hope to attract both novices and experts in the field of ¹H-MRS. The program features invited lectures from internationally recognized specialists, as well as hands-on sessions dedicated to data acquisition and analysis. Together, these activities will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the field, spanning fundamental MR physics, methodological developments, and translational neuroscience applications.
Program Highlights
Day 1 – MRS Methods & Brain Excitation/Inhibition Balance
- Principles of MRI Physics and ¹H-MRS
- Advanced pulse sequences (PRESS to semi-LASER)
- In vivo assessment of GABA in neurodevelopment
- Afternoon field trip: 1H-MRS data acquisition
Day 2 – Inflammation, Neurodegeneration & Clinical Applications
- Neuroinflammation in neurological and psychiatric diseases
- Diffusion of brain metabolites and cellular morphology
- Quantification and analysis software for ¹H-MRS
- Diagnostic applications in clinical practice
- Afternoon workshop: 1H-MRS data analysis
Participation in the symposium and workshop is free of charge, but registration is mandatory using the following link: https://forms.gle/hcMgpkSR9QcnuUDZ6
We look forward to welcoming you in Brussels for what promises to be an engaging and stimulating scientific meeting.
With kind regards,
On behalf of the organizing committee
COSYmposium
We are very happy to announce that COSYmposium is back!
After its last edition in 2020, COSYmposium returns on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Auditoire Maisin (Woluwe), followed by lunch.
Organized by COSY, the Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience division of the Institute of Neuroscience, this special comeback is a great opportunity to bring our community together again, uniting our colleagues from Woluwe and Louvain-la-Neuve in one shared event. Since COSY is spread across two sites, we do not often get the chance to meet all our colleagues in one place, hear what other labs are working on, and share ideas across the division. That is exactly what this morning is about!
Please make sure to register using the registration form by May 4th!
Registration is very important for planning the (special) lunch and making sure we have an accurate number of participants, so please do not forget to fill it in.
