Understanding mechanisms
Basic neuroscience research, aiming at understanding mechanisms in neuroscience, is an essential first step to apprehend dysfunction and develop new diagnostic tools and treatment strategies for neurological and psychiatric disorders. Exploiting the recent advances in neuroscience research techniques, our institute aims at developing translational and integrative approaches to explore the structure and function of the nervous system, from its smallest components (cellular and molecular neurosciences, basics of neural development and neural differentiation, synaptic plasticity, neuroinflammation, synaptic plasticity, neural glia, …) to its larger functional systems (systems and cognitive neurosciences, perception and motor control, higher-order cognitive functions).
