RECRUITMENT OF A DOCTORAL RESEARCHER WITHIN THE INTERREG REVIVRE PROJECT

UCLouvain – CREAT & MiiL
Début : 1 janvier 2026
Durée du contrat : 39 mois – 100%

Context

RéViVRE (VIRTUAL REALITY FOR A RENEWED AND ECOLOGICAL CITY) is a cross-border project dedicated to the transformation of public spaces through citizen participation, gamification, and immersive tools (XR). The position is part of a PhD project jointly supervised by CREAT ( urban planning research center) and MiiL (Media Innovation and Intelligibility Lab) at UCLouvain. This doctoral research will focus on how gamification and immersive mediation enhance appropriation, understanding, and citizen engagement in urban projects, as well as on how participatory immersive environments transform interactions between residents, experts, and decision-makers.

Accepting this position implies enrollment in the Doctoral School of Urbanism at UCLouvain, depending on the candidate’s background. Embedded in a research-action approach, the PhD candidate will directly contribute to the project’s activities: design of public space development principles, creation of immersive and interactive content, facilitation of participatory workshops, evaluation of user experience in XR systems, documentation of tactical urban interventions, and dissemination of results (narratives, publications, mediation). The candidate will also participate in the local coordination of the RéViVRE Festival as well as in scientific and public outreach activities.

Profile Sought

  • Master’s degree in architecture or urban planning and territorial development (or an equivalent qualification related to urban, participatory, or digital projects).
  • Strong interest in urban design, citizen participation, climate transition, territorial mediation, and digital innovation.
  • Sensitivity to issues related to gamification, immersive/XR environments, and co-creation approaches.
  • Proficiency in GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS), basic knowledge of 3D modeling (SketchUp, Rhino, Blender), and fundamentals of digital prototyping are an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, synthesis, and academic writing skills.
  • Ability to work comfortably in interdisciplinary teams and in cross-border environments.
  • Good command of French; knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
