Through its Statistical Methodology and Computing Service Platform (SMCS), UCLouvain offers the scientific community and businesses the opportunity to learn various data analysis techniques. This summer, the SMCS and the Center for Natural Language Processing (CENTAL) are offering a new summer school to help you acquire practical and relatively advanced skills in text mining using the Python programming language.
Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a discipline at the intersection of linguistics, computer science, and artificial intelligence. It uses a set of technologies that enable computers to “understand,” analyze, and generate human language. Google’s search engine, Apple’s Siri, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT demonstrate just how integral the results of research in this field have become to our daily lives. Whether it’s extracting dates from emails to plan an event or identifying the actions to take following a voice command, structuring information and analyzing content are essential.
The course offered here is ideal for anyone who already has a solid foundation in Python programming and wishes to expand his/her skills in this rapidly growing field.
The applications of NLP are diverse, ranging from extracting information from meeting minutes to structuring medical documents, as well as monitoring brand awareness on social media and analyzing legal contracts. This year, the course will not focus on a specific topic but will explore various facets of text mining through several examples of flagship applications, thereby fostering a comprehensive and versatile understanding of this constantly evolving field.
