An FNRS Research Director and head of the Laboratory of Neuronal Differentiation within the Louvain Institute of Biomolecular Science and Technology (LIBST), Frédéric’s research focuses on:
the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate neuronal differentiation and migration in the developing spinal cord;
the reorganization of neurons following spinal cord injury in adults;
and the mechanisms underlying Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), an incurable neurodegenerative disease affecting the spinal cord.
His experimental approach involves generating animal models to better understand the formation of neural circuits in the spinal cord and to identify new therapeutic avenues for certain pathologies of the central nervous system.
Succeeding Professor Françoise Gofflot, Professor Frédéric Clotman has taken over the coordination of the ANCA platform.
