SIG PAIN

Special Interest Group on Translational Pain Research
Normal and pathological pain covers many biological, psychological and social aspects. Research on its mechanisms therefore requires the collaboration of different research disciplines. The Special Interest Group PAIN aims to develop translational pain research by bringing together basic and clinical neuroscientists exploring the neurobiology and psychophysiology of pain in cell models, animal models, healthy human individuals and patients. SIG PAIN includes several clinicians involved in the management of chronic pain. To promote this multidisciplinary research, SIG PAIN organizes joint scientific activities and supports cross-disciplinary project.
Involved Research Groups/Divisions
- NOCIONS – Pain Research Lab (including SpacePain group & InsuLab; COSY)
- NFAR - Neuropharmacology (CEMO)
- FYCL – Laboratory of Cell Physiology (CEMO)
- CDC Saint-Luc (COSY)
- CDC Mont-Godinne (NEUR)
SIG ALZAD

Special Interest Group on Alzheimer's disease and associated dementias
Research on fundamental and clinical aspects of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been historically associated with the IoNS since its creation. Alzheimer's disease and associated dementias (ALZAD) is a collaborative group that unites four research teams currently working at IoNS, focusing on research related to aging, memory and dementia from both clinical and molecular perspectives. Their major common goal is a better understanding of the biological mechanisms underpinning AD and dementia conditions, the identification of tools for a better early diagnosis and the most appropriate care for patients with AD. While each team explores de different aspects of AD and dementia with their own background and expertise, this special interest group bring them together to combine their mutual and complementary strengths to in common projects facilitating translational research.
Involved Research Groups/Divisions
- Louvain Aging Brain Lab (PI: Bernard Hanseeuw) from NEUR
- Aging and Dementia (PI: Pascal Kienlen-Campard) from CEMO
- Laboratory of Cell Physiology (PI: Philippe Gailly) from CEMO
- Developmental Neurobiology (PI: Fadel Tissir) from CEMO
SIG TOUCH

Special Interest Group on touch
The Special Interest Group TOUCH aims to develop transla<onal and interdisciplinary research on touch research by bringing together neuroscien<sts, doctors, and engineers who are have research interest to explore the neurobiology and psychophysiology of the sense of touch as well as new techniques for haptic stimulation. SIG TOUCH also encompass multisensory research involving tactile interactions. To promote this interdisciplinary research, SIG TOUCH organizes joint scientific activites and supports cross-disciplinary projects.
Involved Research Groups/Divisions
