The PhD... Quite a process, in a few words!
Throughout your PhD, you will be supported and supervised by a team that will help you complete your project, both administratively and scientifically.
You will also have certain obligations and steps to follow.
Here, on the Enrolment Service pages, you will find all the information you need about the first steps (activating your UCLouvain account, requesting your access card, virtual office, obtaining a certificate of enrolment, etc.).
Intranet access, after identification!

Specific publication requirements
This information is also included in our "Special regulatory provisions".
No later than 15 working days before the public defence, the PhD student must have had at least one publication approved by the Doctoral committee that meets the following criteria: a publication related to the doctoral project (directly linked to the project’s theme and produced mainly during the PhD), as the sole first author, in an international scientific journal (with at least three countries represented on the editorial board), peer-reviewed and not a predatory journal.
From 1/09/2024, publications in predatory journals will no longer be approved by the Doctoral committee, unless the doctoral student can provide evidence that the initial submission was made before that date.
These predatory journals include, in particular, all journals from the Frontiers, MDPI and Hindawi groups.
In case of doubt, PhD students should not hesitate to contact the Doctoral Committee before submitting their publication.
Annual meetings and ECTS validation
PhD students are invited to submit their "Annual Report" once a year to the Doctoral commission, following each annual meeting with the Supervisory panel.
This report must be accompanied by the "Credit validation request" form, which can be found online, along with all attestations.
One activity = One attestation = One numbered appendix.
The end of the PhD programme
As you will read above, in "The roles of the Doctoral commission", please remember that the Doctoral committee remains at your disposal throughout your PhD doctoral studies!
Good work everyone!
