Robustness for Tabular Machine Learning: A Back-and-Forth Journey between Research and Industry

Marco Gonzalez (supervisor : David Bol) will publicly defend his PhD thesis "𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐰-𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐅 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭-𝐨𝐟-𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬" on January 5, 2026 at 4 pm in Auditorium SUD03.

The 𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 project aims to develop 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐛𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠, enabling more 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 for advanced mechanical systems. This project strengthens ICTEAM’s commitment to 𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐲, 𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲-𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, thanks to the funding of the regional innovation ecosystem.

The Prize in Applied Sciences (Dr. A. De Leeuw-Damry-Bourlart Prize) was awarded to François-Xavier Standaert, FNRS Research Director within the Crypto Group at ICTEAM, UCLouvain. The Prize was presented to him during the FNRS Quinquennial Awards ceremony presided over by His Majesty King Philippe that took place at Bozar on November 24, 2025.
