As the new academic year begins, Dean Professor Matthieu de Nanteuil reflects on the successes of the past year and shares his vision for the year ahead at the Louvain School of Management (LSM).

The 2024–2025 academic year closed on a high note, marked by two major achievements: a renewed five-year EQUIS accreditation and an outstanding evaluation from CEMS. “LSM came together around these objectives and achieved results beyond expectations,” he notes with pride. “I would like to thank the entire LSM community — let’s continue this momentum.”

These accomplishments are accompanied by several important developments. LSM continues to be a leading actor in pedagogical innovation, particularly through the TwIMP initiative (Teaching with an Impact), which fosters creative learning approaches. The faculty has also advanced its commitment to inclusivity with the Erasmus4All project, designed to make international mobility more accessible. In parallel, a dedicated working group has been established to reflect on the school’s Ethics, Responsibility, and Sustainability (ERS) strategy — a central pillar of LSM’s identity.

Looking ahead to 2025–2026, the Dean highlights three key priorities. The first concerns the Master’s thesis reform, a timely reflection in light of the rise of AI tools. Under the leadership of Professor Evelyne Léonard, the thesis is being redefined as a means for students to demonstrate how they integrate the skills developed throughout their studies — better preparing them for the labour market.

The second priority focuses on well-being and quality of life at work. Building on the results of the recent Pulse-T survey, the faculty aims to continue fostering a caring and supportive environment for academic, scientific and administrative staff.

Finally, the third priority is efficiency and coherence. LSM is developing a dashboard to consolidate key data and improve decision-making while also refining its course offering to ensure clarity and alignment with its strategic goals.

Professor Matthieu de Nanteuil encourages students to fully embrace their studies:

“Be proud and fully engaged in your studies — it is a privilege to study at UCLouvain. Be aware of your responsibilities now and for the future.”

Reflecting on the past year, the Dean highlights what distinguishes LSM among management schools: its humanist roots and its values in education.

“Our quality is widely recognised by EQUIS and CEMS. This recognition shows that we are different — because we have always championed education built on strong values within a university with a long-standing humanist tradition. Our strength lies in translating these values into concrete actions.”

He concludes with a musical metaphor that captures his leadership philosophy:

“A Dean is like a conductor, but quality comes from each of the instruments.”
