Teaching with and about GenAI

ia |

UCLouvain encourages responsible and critical use of generative AI by students and teachers.

UCLouvain is committed to supporting and properly equipping them to use these technologies in an informed manner, in compliance with current laws, university regulations, and principles of academic integrity.

Constructive Alignment: A Guiding Principle

Constructive alignment is crucial for evaluating the relevance of integrating generative AI into learning processes.

It is a matter of ensuring consistency between learning objectives, teaching methods, and assessments. This is particularly important at several levels:

Adaptation of Learning Outcomes

It is recommended to modify the learning outcomes of programs to include new skills related to the use of generative AI tools and to practice them during courses. This may involve modifying the learning outcomes of certain learning units or creating new teaching units.

Alignment in Methods and Assessments

The integration of generative AI into teaching methods and assessment systems must also be aligned with learning objectives. This consistency ensures that the use of AI genuinely supports the intended learning goals.

Questions or need support?

UCLouvain officially offers Microsoft Copilot Chat and Piccolo BETA for text generation, as well as Wooflash for student revision. We advise against promoting ChatGPT in your courses, except for experimental demonstrations with public data as examples. You can, however, mention this recommendation in your course description. Yes, the Louvain Learning Lab team can provide individual support tailored to your needs and can even come to meet your students. For larger projects, the Pedagogical Development Funds offer financial and methodological support. For any support, contact us: lll-num@uclouvain.be

Participate in our workshops and our practical "hands-on" sessions designed specifically for teachers. We also organize custom training for your teaching team, adapted to the specific needs and guidelines of your faculty. For any support, contact us: lll-num@uclouvain.be

No. UCLouvain in no way mandates the use of artificial intelligence for teachers. However, it encourages a critical, responsible, and informed approach to these tools for those who wish to integrate them into their teaching practices. The university also promotes teacher training to help understand the challenges students face.

Training modules for teachers and administrative staff systematically address these dimensions through activities and complementary resources. They invite participants to reflect on AI's impacts on the climate, planetary resources, inequalities, and professional practices, among other things.

The university supports teachers in questioning AI uses and to collaboratively develop teaching practices aligned with their values, their discipline's realities, and students' actual practices.
