International exchanges

agro | Louvain-la-Neuve

Students at the Faculty of Bioengineering have the opportunity to complete part of their studies abroad.

This is a chance to meet and share ideas, practices, and life experiences with students from diverse cultural backgrounds. It is also a valuable addition to your CV, highlighting your mobility, adaptability, and teamwork skills.

During your studies, you will have several opportunities to gain international experience.

You can participate in an Erasmus exchange, complete your Bachelor’s and/or Master’s internship abroad, undertake your thesis research stay in a country of your choice, or even do a post-graduation internship reserved for recent graduates.

Erasmus Exchange

Each year, Master 1 students have the chance to spend a semester at a partner university abroad. Exchange programs offer different teaching methods, curricula, and learning environments, sometimes approaching topics from new perspectives. While Erasmus originally aimed to promote physical mobility among European students, its goal today is to foster a sense of European—and even global—citizenship.

The Faculty of Bioengineering is very active in its partnerships and has agreements with over 40 universities across Europe, North America, and South America.

If you are already a student at the Faculty, you can consult the Erasmus exchange application procedure here.

Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Internship

Before your third Bachelor’s year, you must complete a one-month socio-professional observation internship within a company. This internship is an integral part of your training and can be completed abroad.

During your Master’s, you will have the option to do a professional integration internship in a company. This internship is not mandatory but provides valuable practical experience and serves as a stepping stone toward employment. It aims to expose students to professional realities outside the university.

The professional integration internship should allow the student to:

  • Strengthen professional skills and develop expected workplace behaviors, including learning interpersonal relations within a company;

  • Apply critical thinking skills to understand and adapt to complex, non-routine professional situations;

  • Use and showcase the specific skills acquired during their studies in service of the company.

Post-Graduation Internship

Under the Erasmus+ and Belgica programs, recent Master’s and Doctoral graduates can receive mobility grants for post-graduation internships in Flanders or any Erasmus+ participating country. The internship must take place within 12 months of graduation.
