Who pays for APC?

Paying APCs (Article Processing Charges) may sometimes be required to publish in Open Access. What options are available to cover this cost?
- There is no institutional budget.
- Some funders may contribute. This is the case for the F.R.S-FNRS (see their open access regulations via the link) and Horizon Europe. However, you must comply with the criteria defined in their regulations (for example : publication in full Open Access journals and not in hybrid journals) in order to be eligible for these contributions.
- Some institutes or labs have funds that can be used to cover APCs. Please check with them
Note that UCLouvain has entered into an agreement with a publisher (Cambridge University Press) that covers both Open Access publication costs and subscriptions to their journals (see the dedicated page on the intranet under My BiLC when logged in).
